My favourite holiday fashion trends

The holidays are just around the corner and with plenty of Christmas dinners and new year’s parties to attend, therefore you’re going to need banging outfits. Whether it’s to give yourself a confidence boost or to impress your crush, I’ve got you covered! Today I will be sharing my favorite trends for the holidays. Follow these simple tricks to achieve the ultimate holiday SLEIGH (slay, *ba dum tss*)!

There is a reason we use the phrase ‘smooth like velvet’. The fabric is extremely soft to the touch and oozes luxury without breaking the bank. It’s no wonder that this fabric has been a sign of nobility for centuries. And velvet has made its comeback! From couches to pouches, velvet can be found everywhere nowadays. It may not be for everyone, but if you are looking to add a touch of sophistication to your outfit, choose to accessorize with a velvet pair of heels or a clutch. And if you are more of a daredevil, then go all out with a velvet dress, jumpsuit or even a blazer.

If you want to be the life of the party, then go for glitter. Believe me, nothing sparkles quite like glitter does. The small particles reflect light at different angles. This is what makes it shimmer and shine. Even prehistoric humans used glitter in cosmetics and cave paintings (humans have always been extra). Today, there are different types of glitter (20.000 varieties to be exact) in a all colors and sizes. With so many options it can get a bit overwhelming. If you don’t know what to go for, go for a classic black or grey and build from there.

As a performer you always have a sequin article of clothing (or like myself, quite a few) in your closet. Sequins tend to catch a lot of light, they are reflective and just downright beautiful! A sequin dress will definitely make you stand out from the crowd. And if you don’t necessarily want to be the center of attention you can always tone it down. Achieve a more subtle look by going for a dress that is only partially covered in sequin instead of completely covered in sequin. And remember, you can never go wrong with a little black (sequin) dress.

The tassel trend is one that started during spring and has gained popularity since then. The earrings in particular have become such a popular trend that even the duchess of cambridge has given it a try (cool right?). But tassels are not solely limited to earrings. After Kylie Jenner’s outing in a Balmain tassel dress, the tassel trend exploded. From pants to dresses and tops, tassels can be seen everywhere. A tassel dress is perfect for a night out dancing because of the way the tassels move around: its instantly a fun outfit. Maybe it’s not really your thing, but I promise you that a tassel earring will definitely give your outfit a ‘facelift’.

Other hot trends to look for this holiday season are metallics, beading (especially pearls and crystals), lace, fur and feathers.

How to put your look together:

Pick out your statement piece As much as I love being the center of attention, having all these trends combined can be a bit of an eyesore. Pick one or two statement pieces and just go with that, because too much of a good thing can become excessive.

Makeup on fleek and hair super sleek

Your finished look is not finished unless you look polished and put together. Your makeup and hairstyle can either make your look a hit or a miss. Go for an updo to showcase your statement necklace or earrings. Go for loose curls to add a little ‘va va voom’. Balance a smokey eye with nude lips or keep the eye makeup simple when going for a bold lip color.

Prioritise, Accessorise!

Let’s say worst case scenario, the dress you ordered won’t arrive before Christmas (has a mini heart attack), you’re gonna have to figure that out real quick. A great way to turn an otherwise boring outfit into a fabulous one is by accessorizing. Go from plain Jane to fabulous Ann.

These are my favourite trends for the holiday season and this is how I put my holiday glam look together. I hope some of these have been helpful to you and have inspired your own beautiful outfits. Seeing as this will be my last blog post before Christmas, I would like to wish all my readers a fabulous Christmas. Shimmer and Shine!
